Artisan Contracting served as the general contractor for the build-out of The Buhl Bar, an intimate cocktail lounge located within the historic Buhl Building in downtown Detroit. This project transformed a portion of the iconic office tower into a welcoming hospitality space that blends the building's rich architectural history with a modern neighborhood-style bar experience.
Inspired by the Buhl Building's French architectural influences and the site's early Detroit history, The Buhl Bar was envisioned as a convenient gathering place for tenants, visitors, and the surrounding downtown community. The design honors the building's historic character while introducing a contemporary destination for food, drinks, and social connection.
The project included a complete interior hospitality build-out featuring a custom bar, millwork, wood paneling, architectural finishes, flooring, lighting, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) coordination. Construction required careful planning within an active high-rise office building, including coordination with existing infrastructure, life-safety systems, and building operations.
Today, The Buhl Bar offers a sophisticated yet approachable atmosphere that complements the historic Buhl Building while serving Detroit's central business district. This project showcases Artisan Contracting's expertise in cocktail bar construction, hospitality renovations, adaptive reuse, commercial tenant improvements, and historic building renovations throughout Metro Detroit.
