The Monarch Club
33 John R St., Detroit, MI 48226
Artisan Contracting served as the general contractor for The Monarch Club, a rooftop cocktail lounge located atop the historic Metropolitan Building in downtown Detroit. This unique hospitality project involved the transformation of a previously underutilized rooftop into a refined, high-end gathering space that highlights panoramic views of the city while respecting the historic structure below.
The scope of work included a full rooftop hospitality build-out with custom bar fabrication, interior lounge construction, high-end architectural finishes, lighting design coordination, flooring, millwork, and integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. Due to the complexity of rooftop construction on a historic building, the project required careful coordination with structural constraints, weather exposure considerations, and phased construction sequencing to ensure safety and performance.
Artisan Contracting worked closely with the ownership group, design team, and trade partners to bring the vision for The Monarch Club to life. The focus throughout construction was on precision, material quality, and creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience that feels both elevated and inviting. Every detail was executed to support a premium hospitality environment designed for social gatherings, events, and nightlife.
The completed space now stands as one of Detroit’s premier rooftop destinations, known for its curated cocktail program, elegant atmosphere, and sweeping skyline views. The project reflects a successful balance between historic preservation and modern hospitality design, contributing to the continued revitalization of downtown Detroit’s architectural landscape.
This project showcases Artisan Contracting’s experience in rooftop construction, complex urban renovations, hospitality build-outs, commercial tenant improvements, and historic building adaptation throughout Metro Detroit. Each project is delivered with a focus on craftsmanship, coordination, and creating spaces that elevate the guest experience while respecting the integrity of the existing structure.
