Marrow in the Market
8044 Kercheval Ave, Detroit, MI 48214
Artisan Contracting served as the general contractor for the build-out of Marrow, a butcher shop and restaurant concept located in Detroit’s West Village neighborhood. This hospitality project transformed a neighborhood storefront into a highly curated food destination that combines a full-service restaurant experience with an in-house butcher counter and retail program.
The scope of work included a complete interior tenant build-out with commercial kitchen installation, butcher shop display and prep areas, custom service counters, refrigeration systems, flooring, lighting, millwork, tile, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) coordination. Special attention was given to food safety requirements, cold storage integration, and workflow efficiency to support both retail and restaurant operations within a compact urban footprint.
Working closely with the ownership team, designers, and specialty equipment vendors, Artisan Contracting helped deliver a space that prioritizes craftsmanship, transparency, and functionality. The layout was carefully coordinated to support seamless movement between butcher prep, customer service, and dining areas while maintaining a warm and approachable guest experience.
Today, Marrow is recognized as one of Detroit’s standout neighborhood culinary destinations, known for its whole-animal butchery, seasonal menu, and thoughtfully designed interior. The completed space reflects a balance of industrial utility and refined hospitality design, supporting both its retail butcher operation and its restaurant service model.
This project highlights Artisan Contracting’s expertise in restaurant construction, specialty food retail build-outs, commercial kitchen installations, and hospitality tenant improvements throughout Metro Detroit. From neighborhood concepts to destination dining spaces, Artisan Contracting delivers construction solutions that support unique culinary operations with precision and care.
