Lady of the House
1426 Bagley Street, Detroit, MI 48216
Artisan Contracting served as the general contractor for the build-out of Lady of the House, an Irish-inspired, chef-driven restaurant located in the former St. Cece’s building in Corktown, Detroit. This project transformed a historic neighborhood space into a refined dining destination centered around seasonal cuisine, elevated comfort food, and a warm, hospitality-focused guest experience.
The scope of work included a full interior restaurant tenant build-out featuring a commercial kitchen installation, custom bar construction, dining room renovations, millwork, flooring, tile, lighting, and coordinated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. The renovation required careful integration within an existing historic structure, balancing preservation of architectural character with the functional demands of a modern restaurant operation.
A key focus of the project was adapting the existing building layout to support a chef-driven concept with an efficient kitchen workflow and seamless front-of-house service. This included coordination of commercial cooking equipment, refrigeration, ventilation systems, and back-of-house prep spaces to ensure consistent performance during service while maintaining flexibility for a seasonal, evolving menu.
Artisan Contracting worked closely with the ownership team, culinary leadership, designers, and trade partners to execute a space that reflects both craftsmanship and comfort. Every detail—from spatial planning to material selection—was designed to create an intimate dining environment that feels elevated yet approachable, with a strong sense of place rooted in Corktown’s historic character.
The completed Lady of the House became a standout addition to Detroit’s dining scene, recognized for its thoughtful cuisine, inviting atmosphere, and design-forward interior within a repurposed historic building. The finished space successfully blends modern restaurant functionality with preserved architectural elements of the former St. Cece’s structure.
This project highlights Artisan Contracting’s expertise in historic restaurant renovations, chef-driven concepts, commercial kitchen build-outs, tenant improvements, and hospitality interiors throughout Metro Detroit. Each project is delivered with a focus on precision, craftsmanship, and respecting the integrity of existing structures while elevating their new purpose.
